Oink.org.uk Saving Pigs From A Life Of SilenceOink.org.uk is an organisation that protects pigs from a life of silence. Can you imagine a life without speech, where you opened your mouth to talk but nothing comes out? Well thanks to a terrible disease called "Oinkitis" this is what is happening to pigs across the nation and all around the world.
Oinkitis Uncovered! Oinkitis however does not just effect old pigs, it also effects the little piglets too. Imagine the worry of the parents when they call for their little babies and cannot find them because the little piglets have suddenly been struck down by Oinkitis.
Portia's Story She couldn't sleep, she couldn't eat, all she could do was think about her little oink which was no longer there. She had seen the vet but to no avail, see there was no known cure for Oinkitis, just a life of silence! Portia was beside herself with worry, for Portia this was one of the worst things that could have happened as she was such a fun loving and sociable pig she could imagine no worse a torment than losing her oink. For hours Portia would sit around contemplating what would become of her, she didn't go to see her friends and family, Portia was very unhappy indeed. Peter's Story
Many silent nights passed, he thought of the times he had been oinking in the field with his friends but now he was so very sad that all he did was sat by the side of his mother, or alone in their pig sty. Peter's mother tried to help him, but she was told that the disease was incurable and he would have to learn to live his life without the oink he had been so used to. Paul, Peggy And Patricia - Their Story
All three of them were struck down by Oinkitis in one foul swoop, they were frantic. Lost, cold and hungry they wandered around aimlessly trying to attract attention, but without their oink they were unable to make themselves heard. They didn't know what to do so they stayed together in the haystack for warmth and comfort hoping that soon they would be found. It was two days later that their mum and dad found them, shivering and thirsty. They were safe at last, but unable to oink. A life of silence was theirs to look forward to. Oinkitis The Full Story There are many stories like the three above, too many pigs and piglets were suffering, destined to a life of silence. If you walked in the country you would hear only the birds singing because in fields everywhere the epedemic had hit! All you would see is the empty fields as families of Pigs sat in silence in their sty's wondering what was to become of them. They all knew that there was no cure and so they sat in sadness, their Oink gone forever. How Can You Help Us? Do you want to help prevent these and thousands of other little pigs from suffering from Oinkitis? Well if you do, here is how! We at Oink.org.uk have made a fantastic discovery, early in October 2003 a fantastic noise was heard on the river Orwell in Suffolk. A thames barge full of people playing a new British card game called Grab a Pig meant that everybody was laughing, shouting but more importantly, Oinking and having great fun. As if by some miracle, the loud oinking noises being made by the humans on the barge was heard by Portia, she immediately and instinctively went to Oink back and HEY PRESTO, her oink it returned. She could not believe it, and was ecstatic. She ran around the field oinking at all the pigs to rally themselves to the river bank. As each of them heard tthe oinking coming from the barge they all half heartedly went to oink back, and they could. Portia had found the cure that everyone said didn't exist, Grab a Pig. Quickly Portia got herself involved with the Grab a Pig card game and has been spreading the word since. She has been rallying around for the help of Children and Adults alike to play Grab a Pig, the laughter and oinking that is generated by people playing Grab a Pig is so riotous that it spreads infectiously and within no time at all infected pigs and piglets alike are cured. Portia has gathered a group of farmyard friends to help her with the task, and together they are rallying around trying to spread the word about Grab a Pig... They need YOU!! Here is What You Can Do!
